| The official description of Freshman FOCUS Class:
A one quarter required class where students build on what they know about themselves, research career options, and develop a plan for the future. The quarter culminates with students writing an I-Search paper about a possible career choice, and then presenting their findings orally using a PowerPoint slide show to assist them.
The Breakdown:
While in this class, students will be:
- Working productively with 3-4 other students in a team
- Acting as a Freshman FOCUS employee and will sign a contract, keep a time card and get paid based on their productivity
- Learning about your school and the part you play in keeping it the 'Pride of the East Side'.
- Taking part in activities and surveys to help identify values, strengths, skills and interests.
- REsearching careers that match with their values, strengths, skills, and interests.
- Making educated choices about registering for next year's classes and choosing an academy.
- Conducting major research into a career of their choice
- Constructing a final project that involves a research paper, an oral presentation and a PowerPoint slide show.
